Chapter 1: The High Spirit That Sleepeth Here
It was a child. One that should not have happened; was not allowed to happen. A dragon born of fire and ice. Kerafyrm, meaning 'almighty son' in the ancient tongue of the dragons was a prismatic dragon. As punishment, Kerafyrm's parents were put to death.
One dragon took pity on the child and looked upon this creation as that of the Will of Veeshan, the Mother Wyrm who marked Norrath with her talons as the spawning ground for her kin. They were the first inhabitants. Kildrukaun had been appointed Arch Priest of Veeshan by divine rite and ceremony. He hated the second generation, the younger races that were created by other gods. He was the one responsible for the death of Kerafyrm's parents. They broke the decree. The unification of souls between opposing elements was forbidden. It was believed to have dire consequences to the entire Dragon Nation. Kildrukaun raised the young dragon and served as dictator behind his mentors. Kerafyrm rose to a power unseen within any dragon of the same age.
The dragon nation split into two separate factions of power. One was The Ring of Scale, who fled to the continent of Velious. The other was the original order called The Claws of Veeshan. Kildrukaun was furious by this split and prophesized that Karafyrm would lead The Claws of Veeshan in a great civil war against the other faction, which would reunite the factions and fulfill the will of Veeshan. Kerafyrm quickly ascended through the ranks and became the most powerful general of The Claws of Veeshan. Although Kerafyrm led many successful campaigns against the rising threat of the giants of Kael, something dark grew within him. He became venomous and ruthless in his command over his troops and allies.
Legend has it that the Council outnumbered Kerafyrm to subdue him, but could not destroy him. They placed him in a tomb and held him prisoner with powerful magic to put him to "sleep" hoping one day he would die a natural death.
Four powerful dragons of seperate elemental influence were appointed to guard The Sleeper. Warders were selectively bred over the ages to the guard the outskirts of the lair.
Kerafyrm was considered to be the most powerful dragon who ever lived -- still lives. Some believe to be as powerful as the Goddess Veeshan herself! Too much corruption, too much power -- a danger to all of those on Norrath. Legend states that the one who freed The Sleeper would be granted with power beyond their dreams.
There was one who sought ultimate power of his own. The power to live, to rule, to claim Norrath as his own, and become a god in his own right. He would be known to be just as ruthless as Kerafyrm, and sought to ally himself with the dragon and gain that legendary power.
Ironically, this individual was not a dragon at all. He was the dragons' worst nightmare, and he was planning to awaken The Sleeper!
